Container Weight Verification Meeting
The CBFCA has circulated a media release relating to a meeting that they attended. Chaired by Shipping Australia Limited, the meeting was held in order to discuss the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, specifically in relation to Container Weight Verification.
The primary outcome of said meeting is that from 1st July, 2016 a container cannot be loaded onto a ship unless a verified actual gross mass of the container is provided by the shipper in advance, with all associated paperwork to clearly state the method used for verification. Delays could occur if cargo was not correctly reported and all associated costs incurred due to incorrect declarations will be at the expense of the shipper.
